Inquiry Fair

The boys have Inquiry Fair tomorrow. Inquiry Fair is similar to Science Fair, but your question does not have to be science related. The child comes up with a question and then they have to design some sort of project that will answer the question. This time my boys decided they wanted to do an Inquiry around a survey question. The questions they came up with had to do with cookies. Now let me tell you, I never thought I would say this but I am not sure I ever want to see another Chocolate Chip Cookie in my life!!!!!! We have made 9 batches of cookies this week. Mitchell had to write 5 paragraphs about his inquiry around critical reframers (examples - comparing, classify, inducing, error analysis, etc.) William had to write three paragraphs. I have included one paragraph they have written under their picture.

I wasn’t happy that the Chocolate Chip cookies won. So I decided to use classification to see if I could make the Cinnamon Chocolate Chip cookie win in some category. I first classified my result by age: 9 and under – Chocolate Chip won, 10-18 Peanut Butter Chocolate Chip won, Adult - Chocolate Chip won. Then I decided to classify by boy or girl, Chocolate Chip won both!!!! Then I gave up Chocolate Chip wins, I didn’t want it to happen.

Next I decided to classify the surveys by age. I made three categories 9 and under, 10-18 years of age, and adult. The first category 9 and under, it was very strange I thought this group would like the wheat the most because it was very sweet. But what surprised me evan more was that it was actually the least liked. It was the only category to tie not only two flavors but three. So there was no winner. I wonder if that means their taste buds are not as developed yet. The next category. 10-18 years of age, the one thing that surprised me was that the wheat scored higher with this group than the younger kids, it came in actually second. Rice won this category. The last category, adult, non of the adults chose the wheat. Rice won and oat came in second. I think your age makes a very different reaction to the cookie. If your younger than 9 they all taste the same and if you are older than 9 you will probably like rice but if you are an adult you will probably hate the wheat.
