And Down She Goes

Kelsey is taking swimming lessons.  She is in the preschool class and this week they started going over the big pool for the last few minutes of class.  As I watched them walk over to the big pool for the first time, I realized Kelsey was going to go under the water.  I thought about what I could say to her that would make her not step off that third stair and into the deep water.  I realized that there was nothing I could say that would stop her, she was going to have to find out for herself.  So I went and stood by the pool and watched.  She played on the first step, then she played on the second step, then she went and played on the third step. At this point I put my cell phone in my purse and set my purse down by my feet. I knew what was coming, her poor teachers had no clue.  Then it happened she waked right off that third step and into the deep water, under she went.  It took the teacher less than a second to see her and grab her.  (picture to the side is not of this incident) I was ready to jump, but I didn't need to the teachers were on top of it.  They were
obviously shaken. They were so apologetic afterwards. I told them not to worry about it I knew she was going to do it and I was ready if they weren't. It's been a couple of days and Kelsey stays on the top two stairs.  I think she has gone down to the third step once. I knew she would not try it again once she went under. How many things in life are like that for us?  We have to go totally go under before we realize that is not really what we want to do.  Good thing we have Heavenly Father there to lift us back out of the water every time we go under.

Great analogy, Leah, and great mothering. I probably would have been screaming my head off, preventing the valuable life lesson from taking place. Good job!

That's the thing Cheryl. I knew we could tell her and yell and what not. But she is so stubborn she will do what she wants and when she thinks we are not looking she would do it. I decided I would rather have her do it while I was watching and ready.
